Kotpad NAC Celebrates Odia Language Day with Cultural Programs and Community Engagement

Kotpad : Today, Odia Language Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the Kotpad Notified Area Council. The celebration was held on the occasion of the Odia New Year and Maha Bishuba Sankranti, marking the final stage of the “Odia Paksha” (Odia Fortnight) on April 15.

As part of the celebration, various cultural activities were organized involving local women, sisters, members of self-help groups, and sanitation workers. The programs included traditional games like hulahuli, jhuti, muruj (art with colored powders), chita (floor decorations), and competitions in preparing traditional Odia pitha (cakes).

Winners of these competitions were awarded certificates of appreciation and gifts by the Council. The event was graced by the honorable Chairman of the Council, M. Shankar Rao, Executive Officer Puja Raut, other council members, office staff, journalists, and intellectuals from the Kotpad region. Their active participation made the day a grand success.

Kotpad Hanuman Temple Hosts Grand Maha Bishuba Pana Sankranti Celebrations

Kotpad: Today,  the birth anniversary of Jai Veer Hanuman and the festival of Maha Bishuba Pana Sankranti were celebrated with great grandeur at the daily market area in Kotpad. Following the early morning rituals and worship, a homa and yajna were conducted in the presence of thousands of devotees, turning the atmosphere of Kotpad town festive and devotional.

Various sankirtan groups from nearby areas participated in the celebrations, singing devotional songs and creating a spiritual ambiance filled with the chants of Lord Rama. A grand arrangement of anna prasada (community feast) was made for more than 5,000 devotees.

The celebration was led by the temple priest of the Veer Hanuman Temple, located at the daily market of Kotpad, Prakash Das, and was made successful with the wholehearted support of the local residents. The event stood out as a remarkable and successful observance of Hanuman Jayanti this year.

One Dead, Two Seriously Injured as Bike Crashes into Electric Pole in Jharigaon

Jharigaon : In a tragic accident, a bike crashed into an electric pole, resulting in the death of one person on the spot and leaving two others critically injured. The incident took place in Dangariguda Panchayat under Jharigaon block of Nabarangpur district.

According to reports, Damudhar Bhatra (50) and his wife Damae Bhatra (45) from Dua village had gone to attend a wedding in Siunaguda village under Dhamanaguda Panchayat. Today, their son-in-law Surya Bhatra went to Siunaguda on a bike to bring them back.

While returning around 3 PM, the bike allegedly hit an elderly pedestrian from Siunaguda, causing the rider to lose balance and crash into an electric pole on the roadside. Damudhar sustained severe head injuries and died at the scene, while his wife and the elderly pedestrian were critically injured.

Locals immediately called an ambulance, which arrived at the scene and transported the two injured individuals to Umerkote Community Health Center for medical treatment.

Meanwhile, the family of the deceased has lodged a written complaint at Dabugam police station. Upon receiving the report, Dabugam police reached the scene, seized the body, and sent it for post-mortem.

Residents have pointed out that many electric poles in the middle of the road in Architaguda village pose a constant danger, often leading to such fatal accidents. They are now demanding the removal of these poles from the road for public safety.

K. Nuagaon Celebrates Hanuman Jayanti with Devotional Fervor and Community Spirit

K. Nuagaon : In K. Nuagaon block of Kandhamal district, Hanuman Jayanti—the birth anniversary of Lord Hanuman, the ardent devotee of Lord Rama—was celebrated along with Maha Bishuba Pana Sankranti across the surrounding areas.

Devotees gathered at temples such as Hanuman Mandir, Harihara Mandir, Rameswar Mandir, and Pattakhanda Mandir to perform traditional rituals including worship, fire sacrifices (homayajna), and recitation of 108 Hanuman Chalisa verses. Copies of the Hanuman Chalisa were also distributed by various individuals.

After offering pana (a traditional sweet drink) to the deity, the temple management committees distributed it among the devotees. Midday annaprasad (sacred food) was also served.

On this occasion, people welcomed the Odia New Year (Pana Sankranti) at all Danda Agana (ritual grounds). In the temples, the new Panji (Hindu almanac) was worshipped and read aloud, officially marking the beginning of the new almanac year.

The rituals were conducted by priests Rabindra Satapathy and Sridhar Tripathy. The event was organized under the supervision of Hanuman Temple Committee President Krushna Mohan Panigrahi, Secretary Kali Prasad Tripathy, and Treasurer Prabhat Kumar Panigrahi. Other notable contributors included senior member Shyamghana Sahu, Pandit Kumar Bishimaji, Bijay Kumar Sahu, Sukanta Kumar Mahapatra, Sakrajit Beshoyi, Krushna Chandra Samanu, Ramchandra Padhi, Sushil Kumar Patra, Pindu Pradhan, Kalia Patra, and Bhagirath Nath, who all supported the successful execution of the program.

First Parent-Teacher Meeting of the Academic Year Scheduled for April 19

Bhubaneswar: The new academic session began on the 2nd of this month. The first Parent-Teacher Meeting (PTM) of the academic year will be held on the upcoming 19th. A total of four PTMs will be conducted this year.

In this regard, the Odisha School Education Programme Authority (OSEPA) has issued letters to all District Education Officers (DEOs), Block Education Officers (BEOs), and headmasters of all schools to ensure participation. As per the letter, the meetings are scheduled for April 19, July 30, October 11, and January 17, 2026. The academic calendar has been updated to reflect this schedule, along with an official set of guidelines.

Parents of students from pre-primary (Shishuvatika) to Class 10 are expected to attend. Each meeting will last for two hours without disrupting regular classes. The discussions will focus on various aspects such as academic progress, school development, and the holistic growth of students.

Netanga Celebrates Ram Lalla’s Wedding Festival with Grand Procession

Belaguntha: On the auspicious occasion of Baishakh Pratipada last Sunday, the wedding festival of Lord Shri Ram and Goddess Sita was celebrated with great devotion at the premises of Shri Shri Raghunath Swami Temple, established by the royal lineage of Bije Bhanja, in Netanga village under Belaguntha block.

At 10:45 PM, the idol of Lord Ram was ceremoniously brought out from the inner sanctum. The village reverberated with vibrant cultural performances including Bagha Nacha, Pata Akhada, Dhol, Changu, Ghanta, Mridanga, Shankha, Turi, Kahali, and Kathi Nacha as the Lord was taken on a grand procession around the village.

In the presence of thousands of devotees, the Bata Barana Utsav (welcoming of the groom) was performed at 12:25 AM. Following that, at 12:40 AM, the deity proceeded to the wedding altar (Bibaha Bedi).

With the wholehearted support of villagers from Netanga, Kural Sahi, and Ranpur, as well as active participation from the local youth, the divine wedding ceremony was concluded in an atmosphere of great joy and devotion.

Refreshing Ritual: Dahi Sharbat Served to Devotees During Maa Bauti’s Jhamu Yatra

Athagarh The Jhamu Yatra of Athagarh’s revered deity Maa Bauti was held with great devotion. A large number of devotees gathered to witness the procession.

On this occasion, the local volunteer organization Athagarh Seva Foundation distributed dahi sharbat and pana (a traditional sweet drink) to the people.

Under the leadership of the foundation’s chairperson Ranjita Bhakta, volunteers including Rajib Sahoo, Saritendu Mohanty, Bevan Jyoti Bhajya, Usharani, Ranjita Das, Sasmita Patra, and Manas Behera actively participated in the service.

Shri Bajrang Agrawal of Bonai Donates Golden Crown Worth Rs 50 Lakhs

Sundargarh Shri Bajrang Agrawal, a resident of Bonai Subdivision in Sundargarh district, has donated a golden crown worth Rs 50 lakhs to the presiding deity of Keonjhar, Maa Tarini. The donation includes not only the crown but also accessories like a nose ring, a forehead ornament (tikili), and eye adornments for the Goddess. The golden crown weighs 445 grams and 470 milligrams.
