​Villagers’ Persistent Appeals Met as MLA Gauri Majhi Initiates Development Projects

Nabarangpur: Residents of Jharanaguda village under Amalabhata Gram Panchayat in Tentulikhunti block were surviving without electricity for years, relying on traditional oil lamps during the evenings to carry out their daily tasks. Despite repeatedly informing public representatives and officials, no solution had been found, according to the villagers.

They had been living without electric lighting and had approached various authorities over the years, but all efforts had gone in vain. Eventually, they placed their demand before the current MLA Gaurishankar Majhi. After hearing their concerns, the MLA visited the remote village by riding a motorcycle over a dangerous wooden bridge to assess the ground situation himself. He assured the villagers that electricity would be provided soon.

Today, fulfilling his promise, MLA Majhi officially inaugurated the electrification of the village, bringing light to the once-dark homes and finally meeting the villagers’ long-standing demand. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Executive Engineer Sushant Kumar Khatei, Junior Engineer Bharat Tanti, SDO J.S.N. Achari, Sachin Maharana, party workers, and local villagers. They expressed their gratitude to the MLA.

The successful fulfillment of this long-pending demand brought a wave of happiness among the villagers. Intellectuals of the area remarked that compared to the previous government, the current government is truly a “people’s government.”

KIIT DU Signs MoU with Sri Lanka’s Institute of Chemistry Ceylon for Joint Research Initiatives

Bhubaneswar: In a move to strengthen collaboration in the field of education and research, Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) and the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon, Sri Lanka, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The MoU was signed by Prof. Saranjit Singh, Vice-Chancellor of KIIT University, and Prof. Zenithaa Abeweikrema Liyanage, President of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon.

As per the agreement, both institutions will take initiatives for academic exchange, joint research, and capacity-building programs in the field of chemical sciences. Present during the event were KIIT and KISS Founder Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Prof. Thelma Abeysinghe from the Department of Chemistry, Open University of Sri Lanka, and Prof. Gyan Ranjan Mohanty, Registrar of KIIT University.

​RSS Observes Varsha Pratipada with Traditional Fervor in Jeypore​

Jeypore​:  The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) women’s wing in Jaipur city celebrated the National New Year (Yugadi 5127, Vikram Samvat 2082) at the Keshav Prabhat Shakha, Suraj Mahal. Among the six important observance days of the RSS, the Hindu New Year is one of the most significant.

On this occasion, city Sanghchalak Dr. Niranjan Mishra, co-city Sanghchalak Lok Premananda Nayak, guest speaker Engineer Subrata Kumar Mishra, and keynote speaker Dr. Seethanath Raiguru were present on the stage. The chief speaker addressed the gathering highlighting the significance of the National New Year celebration.

The event began with the traditional salutation to the first Sarsanghchalak, flag hoisting, and physical demonstrations including Surya Namaskar, yoga postures, and Niyudh (martial arts) displays. The program concluded with the Sangh prayer and distribution of prasad.

​Nabarangpur District Commemorates 90th Odisha Day with Traditional Attire Day​

Nabarangpur: On the occasion of Utkal Divas, the 90th Odisha Day was celebrated in a grand district-level event held in the evening at the local Shastri Bhavan in Nabarangpur. The program was conducted under the brief chairmanship of District Collector Dr. Subhankar Mohapatra. MLA Gouri Shankar Majhi attended as the chief guest, with special guests including MLA Manohar Randhari, and honored guests such as police officer Akshyak Kumar Panda, Additional District Magistrate Bishwajit Barman, and keynote speaker Dr. Bijay Kumar Mishra.

The guests remembered the selfless sacrifices, contributions, and relentless efforts of the great sons of Odisha who played vital roles in the formation of a separate Odisha province. They emphasized the collective responsibility in building a prosperous, empowered Odisha with pride in its identity. The significance of preserving and promoting Odia language, culture, heritage, traditions, literature, and identity for a brighter future was also highlighted.

In the early morning at 5:00 AM, the Information and Public Relations Department organized a procession through the town, accompanied by patriotic songs and “Utkala Vandana” played with traditional instruments. The procession passed by statues of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Utkalmani Gopabandhu Das, and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, where floral tributes were offered by MLA Gouri Shankar Majhi, Collector Dr. Subhankar Mohapatra, students, teachers, and government officials.

In the evening at the Town Hall, the event commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. Following this, Odia speech, essay, music, Jhoti (alpana), and pitha (traditional cake) competitions were held among school and college students. The winners were felicitated by the chief guest.

The event also featured cultural performances by institutions such as Odissi Music and Dance School, Anvesha Kalakendra, and Purushottam Kalakendra, showcasing Odissi, Dhemsa, Sambalpuri, and tribal dance forms.

The musical session led by Yugala Kishore Tripathy began with a group of female students singing the patriotic anthem “Bande Utkala Janani.” District Information and Public Relations Officer Manoj Kumar Behera delivered the welcome speech and conducted the proceedings. The cultural segment was coordinated by District Culture Officer Ghasi Harijana.

The event witnessed the presence of students and teachers from various schools, artists, event organizers, intellectuals, and media representatives.

​Devotees Gear Up for Hanuman Jayanti on April 12 with Traditional Rituals and Fasting

Papadahandi: A preparatory meeting for Hanuman Jayanti was organized by the Hindu Ekta Bahini at the Neelakantheshwar Temple. Several programs have been planned by the organization for the upcoming Hanuman Jayanti celebration scheduled on April 14. As per the consensus of all members and villagers, it was decided that all shops and markets will remain closed from 1 PM on the day of the festival.

Both sides of the road will be decorated with saffron flags, and a grand chariot procession will be carried out from the Neelakantheshwar Temple, covering the village. A Sankirtan (devotional music) group will accompany the procession. Additionally, devotees from all villages under the block will be invited using traditional drums and musical instruments.

The meeting saw the presence of former Sarpanch B. Jaganmohan Rao, G. Ananta Murthy, Trinath Pradhan, Trinath Amanatya, Binod Agrawal, B. Seemadri Rao, Neelakantha Tripathy, Rajkishore Rao, Manoj Agrawal, Gaurishankar Sharma, Omprakash Das, B. Santosh Rao, Prasad Nayak, along with members of the Hindu Ekta Bahini and local villagers.

New Petrol Pump Inaugurated at Nandahandi Block Headquarters, Boosting Local Fuel Access

Nandahandi: A new petrol pump has been inaugurated within the premises of Nandahandi block headquarters, located in Dangarbheja village, under Nabarangpur district. Previously, the only petrol pump in the block was situated far from most other villages, causing inconvenience to the locals who had to rely on small shops selling petrol at higher prices.

Now, an Indian Oil petrol pump named Om Shubham Fuel Station has been officially opened on Wednesday at the block headquarters. Pump owner Parip Padma stated that locals will now be able to purchase petrol at the correct price. The inauguration ceremony was conducted by Padma’s father-in-law Sudhanshu Shekhar Tripathy and mother-in-law Shailabala.

Indian Oil Assistant Manager Rajendra Raul and Padma’s husband Sapan Tripathy were also present during the event.

With this new petrol tank facility in place, locals are relieved that they will now be able to access good quality fuel at fair prices, unlike before when petrol was sold in bottles at inflated rates.

​Podamari Primary School Hosts ‘Khadi Chhuan’ Ceremony to Welcome New Students​

Podamari Today, a “Khadi Chhuan” (Touching the Slate) and Admission Festival was organized at Podamari Primary School. The event was held under the supervision of the Headmaster, Sadashiv Padhi. Ranjana Mishra, Chairperson of Kahna Charitable Trust, attended the program as the chief guest. She praised the government’s “Khadi Chhuan” initiative as a unique step that can help shape disciplined and successful futures for students.

Another esteemed guest, Indira Pattnayak, also attended the event. As part of the celebrations, 30 newly admitted students of the pre-primary (Shishu Vatika) class were warmly welcomed. Following the welcome, all students took part in a village rally.

The occasion also featured cultural performances. Teachers, parents, and students all actively participated and contributed to the success of the event.
