Nabarangpur: A grand procession was organized in Nabarangpur city by the Hindu Ekta Vahini to mark the Odia New Year, which coincides with Hanuman Jayanti and Pana Sankranti. On this day, people greet each other, chant “Jai Shri Ram,” and embrace one another. The entire city was beautifully adorned in saffron colors and illuminated like a new bride with strings of lights.
The main roads and narrow lanes of the city were decorated with saffron flags, arches, and hoardings to welcome the event. Hindu Ekta Vahini had taken charge of the overall preparations and activities. According to reports, in the afternoon, a grand rally started from the local Chauria Chowk and traversed the city, concluding near the police station.
The key attractions of this year’s procession included traditional Dhol-Tasha troupes from Wardha, Maharashtra, the mystical dance of Aghori Babas from Banaras, and five traditional dance forms from Andhra Pradesh. The city swayed to the beats of DJs and local dance performances. Fireworks accompanied a grand cultural display by the Gouda Sahi Akhada group.
People of all ages from across the district took part in the event. Chants of “Jai Shri Ram” filled the air, creating an electrifying atmosphere. From Purapalli to the heart of the city, an extraordinary spiritual ambiance was established.
Hundreds of women dressed in traditional warrior attire participated in the procession. Children were dressed as Shri Ram, Lakshman, Sita, and Hanuman and took part in a city-wide march. The stunning appearances of the Naga Sadhus left everyone amazed.
The Hindu Ekta Vahini invited people from all corners of the district and nearby areas to join the procession and make it a success. The event was described as a symbol of Hindu unity and spiritual awakening. For security, extensive preparations were made by Nabarangpur Police.
In every village and home across the district, people celebrated Hanuman Jayanti by distributing Pana (a traditional drink), serving prasad, and performing homas and rituals. In Kongra, a 24-hour continuous chanting session (Ashta Prahar Namayagna) witnessed thousands of devotees. Similarly, a special homa was performed in front of Lord Hanuman at Anchalaguma.
