Kotpad 30th January 2025 On the auspicious occasion of Mauni Amavasya, millions of devotees gathered at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj to take a holy dip. However, reports suggest that a stampede-like situation arose due to the breaking of barricades. Some pictures from the incident have gone viral on social media, resembling past chaotic moments seen during the Mahakumbh.

The incident reportedly occurred between 1:30 AM and 2:00 AM. While official figures regarding casualties have not been released, media reports indicate that more than 17 devotees have lost their lives. Additionally, over 50 people have been injured, many of whom have been admitted to hospitals for treatment.
In the aftermath of the incident, many devotees have been separated from their families, and reports of missing persons have also surfaced. Independent executive officer Akanksha Rana provided details regarding the stampede at Mahakumbh, stating that the collapse of some barricades on the route to Sangam led to the chaos. She confirmed that some people were injured but assured that none were in critical condition. Treatment for the injured is ongoing, and the situation is completely under control.
Following this unfortunate incident, the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad decided to cancel the holy dip on Mauni Amavasya. With the consensus of all 13 Akharas, the sacred bath was called off, and now the next major bathing event will take place on Vasant Panchami. The Akhara Parishad also expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and urged devotees to remain calm and cooperate.
