A Comprehensive Approach to Fire Safety and Evacuation by the Mumbai Fire Brigade

Mumbai, 2nd September 2024: In light of the annual statistics, the Mumbai Fire Brigade is implementing strategic decisions that incorporate innovative policies and technologies. The introduction of the Fire Evacuation Lift for high-rise buildings, IoT systems, Quick Response Vehicles (QRV), and fire training simulators are among the few initiatives.

A budget of 50 crores has been proposed for the development of fire training simulators, which are real-time training and not virtual training for all firefighters. Following successful implementations in Vishakhapatnam and Lonavala’s defense area, the Mumbai Fire Brigade aims to enhance its rescue operations. The first training simulator will be set up in Kandivali.

Ravindra Ambulgekar, Chief Fire Officer of Mumbai, emphasized the importance of public awareness regarding fire safety, stating that individual safety is largely dependent on personal actions. By following established protocols and effectively using fire extinguishers, citizens can greatly mitigate the risk of casualties and property damage.

As per the data received from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, a total of 10,566 emergency calls were made, of which 3,197 were related to fire emergencies, leading to 8 deaths and 112 injuries. From January 1st to July 31st, 2024, the city experienced 3,197 fire incidents, a slight increase from the 3,125 incidents reported during the same period last year, marking an uptick of 72 incidents.

During the Monsoon Assembly Session, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde revealed that Mumbai experienced approximately 13,000 fire incidents over the last three years, resulting in 65 fatalities. He underscored the urgent need for the installation of fire evacuation lifts in buildings exceeding 70 meters in height

Speaking on the same subject in a written statement, he noted, “The Mumbai Fire Department, in collaboration with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), is committed to safeguarding the well-being of its citizens, especially in the light of the concerning fire incidents, evacuation becomes a challenge. All relevant departments, builders, developers, and occupants must prioritize the maintenance of fire safety equipment, conduct regular fire audits, and install fire evacuation lifts in structures exceeding 70 meters in height.”

He further said the goal is to enhance the quality of life for the residents of Maharashtra by providing comprehensive information regarding fire safety and fire evacuation lift features in various facilities, including high-rise buildings, multi-story complexes, hospitals, hotels, shopping malls, schools, and colleges. In the event of a fire, occupants must be informed about evacuation routes, procedures, and how to exit safely. I am sure this task of public awareness will be given topmost priority.

Deepak Monga, an expert in fire safety and evacuation, remarked that the Fire Department, Municipal Corporations, Energy Department, and our distinguished Chief Minister have consistently highlighted the significance of the Fire Evacuation Lift. This advanced system facilitates prompt and secure evacuations. The more individuals comply with fire safety and evacuation guidelines, the greater the assistance it offers to the government and fire department in fostering a safer infrastructure.

Dr. Vikram Mehta, the Manufacturer of the SPARTAN Fire Evacuation Lift, noted that responsible builders in Mumbai have begun to implement the fire evacuation lift, prioritizing the safety of residents in high-rise buildings. We anticipate that other major cities in Maharashtra will adopt this measure to ensure the safety of their occupants.

‘Most High’ as the title suggests radiates full of positive energy and pays ode to the highest form of self-love which can be found in an artists’ dedication towards their craft. In a world where the focus is more and more on outward achievements and external validation, this song is a gentle reminder to acknowledge all that is already done and the inner strength it has taken to get so far in our lives. It’s a celebration of being one with your creative flow and having utmost faith that every sliver of love and hope put together can bring light where there is darkness.

Produced by Ted Digitil, the song has a smooth positive vibe to it due to the reggae elements.

Steve opens up about what the inspiration was behind creating this tune and how this International collaboration actually took place. He mentioned, “For me ‘Most High’ was inspired by ‘One Love Bob Marley’ vibes. That love wins in the end and that love is the most powerful force in the universe. Smokey introduced me to Dee MC and I was excited to have her on the song! Looking forward to doing more songs together with the two!”

Cross culture collaborations like these are the need of the hour as nothing brings people from different cultures together quite like how Art does. International Conference on Uniting Vedic Knowledge with Modern Technologies hosted by ICON BHARAT, begins!

Hyderabad, September 2024: ICON BHARAT – an institution dedicated to integrate the timeless wisdom of Vedic knowledge with the latest advancements in science and technology; in collaboration with premier scientific institutions such as BrahMos, DRDO, DSIR, University of Hyderabad; Aspire University, Hyderabad; TBI University, Hyderabad; Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani; Atal Incubation Centre, and T-Hub, is hosting the two-day International Conference on Bridging Heritage: Vedic Knowledge and Modern Technologies. Chief Guest Dr G. Satheesh Reddy, Fr. Scientific Advisor to Defence Minister, GOI & Fr. Chairman, DRDO; inaugurated the landmark event being held on August 31 and September 1, 2024, at T-Hub, Hyderabad, today. Guest of Honour Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao, Vice Chancellor, BITS, Group of Institutions & Fr. Director, IIT Delhi; graced the occasion.

This conference aims to create a unique platform where the wisdom of Vedic knowledge intersects with the advancements of modern science and technology. The focus will be on exploring how ancient principles, particularly in fields such as metallurgy, materials science, and chemistry, can be applied to address contemporary challenges and drive innovation.

The two-day event will feature an impressive lineup of keynote speakers, including leading scientists, Vedic scholars, technologists, and industry experts. Attendees will engage in insightful discussions and witness collaborations between government agencies like DST, DRDO, MEITY, and the Ministry of Education. The conference will also highlight cutting-edge research, foster new partnerships, and provide networking opportunities with thought leaders from around the globe.

Speaking on the occasion Dr G. Satheesh Reddy said, the conference beautifully bridges the wisdom of ancient sciences with the innovations of modern technology. It’s truly inspiring to witness such an enthusiastic response from delegates, eager to delve into this fascinating fusion. This keen interest reflects a growing recognition of the value in learning from our rich past—a response that, for something rooted in Vedic sciences, is both remarkable and heartening. As we look ahead, this conference promises to offer profound insights, bringing us closer to our vision of establishing India as a “Vishwa Guru”– a global leader in knowledge and innovation. For any nation to achieve prosperity and self-reliance, it must first attain self-sufficiency in materials and cutting-edge manufacturing technologies. India is making significant strides in this direction. Today, we are proud to say that we are developing numerous critical materials indigenously. From specialized steels for maritime applications, including those for submarines designed to withstand extreme pressures, to the fact that nearly 80% of the materials used in the construction of the INS Vikrant aircraft carrier are sourced locally, our progress is undeniable. Hyderabad, in particular, stands out as a hub of research and development, with several institutions dedicated to advancing these specialized materials. The last decade has seen a spurt with several organisations and labs trying to produce many such critical materials in the country. We all are aware that there are many well proven technologies are in the Vedic Sciences, in the area of materials, techniques like cryptology, cryptography themed aspects are very much there and are very useful to us. SRIVT carried out research and come out with various proven materials, which in itself is a testimony in this area. Over the last 25 years SRIVT worked with various organisations in the country who need materials, be it DRDO, CSIR, ISRO, Atomic Energy, multiple projects have been taken up and the results were highly optimistic. In fact in several instances the process used by SRIVT, was found to be much more efficient than the process followed in modern science. I request Mr A.B.S. Sastry and the research scientists attending this conference to identify the materials, work on it and produce them. Lot of academic institutions too off late are showing interest in Vedic sciences and we heard Prof Ramgopal Rao talking about BITS being keen to work on technologies from our heritage. In fact IIT Hyderabad has a Department of Heritage Sciences. These outcome from the Vedic Sciences can help this country to flourish. We should be in a position to produce the materials needed by this country, ensure we don’t import them anymore, rather we should be in a position to export the material produced by the indigenous processes, from our heritage, while simultaneously making the world green, clean and producing it in an inexpensive way. I am confident that ICON BHARAT will be in a position to bring about synergy between ancient sciences and technology with the modern sciences. I am optimistic of the delegates here being able to deliver specific outcomes and recommendations, we will submit those and convince the government with the outcomes which can make this country self-reliant.

Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao said, what Mr A.B.S. Sastry is doing is very fascinating and institutions like DRDO have utilised this material produced by Mr Sastry for certain strategic applications. It is an amazing kind of work. We need more people like him to bridge the ancient science with the modern science. I would be quite keen to collaborate with Mr Sastry at BITS, Pilani and explore and design the kind of courses we can offer, so that more and more people will be able to use this knowledge and do something for the benefit of the society. The exploring of the ancient science should become a national movement. Politicians talk big, but when it comes to funding such projects, not many are seen doing much, which is a big concern.

Dr A.B.S. Sastry said, what our Maharishis enunciated is very scientific and connected to nature. These Maharishis authored several technological grandhas based on Vedas. Vedas are universal scientific manuals. Such grandhas are the applied Vedic sciences authored by Rishis for the welfare of the mankind. In fact IIT Madras tested the material produced by the traditional methodology and concluded that the process I used ensured material with superior properties than the modern processes. That generated interest in the scientific community. We developed a nano zinc oxide based on a Sloka from herbal elements. We can actually say, Vedic sciences as the advanced sciences and not ancient sciences, purely based on the outcomes from Vedic sciences. We developed so many nano materials, that in IIT Madras I was known as Nano Sastry, because I produced a solution for every nano requirement of theirs.

M Srinivas Rao, CEO, T-HUB; said, Sastry garu is among the few people you meet, even if you meet only once, they will leave a lasting impression. Today there is immense interest in ancient Indian Sciences, some of it influenced by the nationalistic narrative which is building up. The work you are doing is truly amazing, overcoming the scepticism and ridicule you faced. There was lot of science in our heritage, but the challenge is, we haven’t learnt how to codify it. At T-HUB, we have an interesting startup here, Kushal Roy an young entrepreneur is doing some very interesting work in the area of spiritual tech, he is trying to build large language models to kind of predict the future.

Dr P.G. Rao, Organising Chairman, ICON Bharath, said, there are several questions that crop up in our mind, is there any science in Vedas? are homam or agnihotra simple rituals or is there some science in it which purifies the environment? Did our traditional science have knowledge on aeronautics? this conference will address several such questions, with eminent scientists sharing their knowledge. A startup conclave is also taking place at the Conference to encourage the young entrepreneurs to take the traditional knowledge forward. The outcome of this Conference will be presented at the valedictory session.

The event is honored by the support of its Chief Patrons, including Dr G Satheesh Reddy, Former Scientific Advisor to the Defence Minister and Former Chairman of DRDO; Dr Shekhar C. Mande, National President of Vijnana Bharati and Former DG of CSIR; and Prof. Ramgopal Rao, Vice Chancellor of BITS, Group of Institutions and Former Director of IIT Delhi.

With a projected audience of over 500,000 people, both in-person and via extensive media coverage, the conference is set to be a major gathering of minds dedicated to bridging the gap between tradition and innovation. The Conference will witness the signing of key MoUs and the formation of strategic alliances that will drive forward this fusion of ancient and modern knowledge.

Some of the interesting topics being debated at the conference include Role of Technology in serving Dharmik needs of the society; Ancient Indian Vahanashastra; Ancient Wisdom and Modern Applications; Decoding Advanced Space Technology in Ancient Manuscripts; Some fascinating STEM Ideas in Indian Knowledge Systems; Integrating Ancient Wisdom with Al to Predict Human; Agnihotra Therapy; Novel Nanoparticles from Cow dung for Sustainable Agriculture; Journey of metals from Vedic age to modern day; among others.

Some of the eminent faculty at the Conference include Dr Ulrich Berk, President, German Assn. of Homa Therapy; Dr VK Ganapathi Avadhoota Datta Peetham; Dr Balram Singh Chairman, IASc, USA; Smt. Sahiti Sriramoju Scientific Researcher, Sapienza University, Italy; Dr Eswar Prasad Namburi Fr. Yamuna Expressway Property Prices Soar: Flats Up 170%, Land Up 450% in 5 Years – Geetanjali Homestate

Greater Noida, 2nd september 2024 – Geetanjali Homestate, a leading real estate consultancy, has unveiled its latest report on property pricing trends along the Yamuna Expressway, highlighting significant growth in real estate values over the past five years. The report reveals a dramatic surge in property prices, with apartment rates escalating by 170% and land prices witnessing an astounding 450% growth in the last five years, marking the Yamuna Expressway as one of the most lucrative investment hubs in the Delhi-NCR region.

Year-on-Year Breakdown of Property Prices

The report reveals the modest beginnings of this price surge in 2019, where the average price for flats or apartments along the Yamuna Expressway ranged between Rs 2,800 – 3,000 per square foot, while land/plot prices hovered around Rs 1,200 – 1,300 per square foot. In 2020, despite the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a slight appreciation in prices, with apartments averaging between Rs 3,200 – 3,300 per square foot and land prices remaining stable at Rs 1,250 – 1,300 per square foot.

The real estate market along the Yamuna Expressway began to gain momentum in 2021, driven by the gradual return to normalcy and increased interest in suburban properties. Apartment prices rose to Rs 3,400 – 3,600 per square foot, while land prices saw a notable increase to Rs 2,000 – 2,200 per square foot. This period marked the beginning of a significant upward trajectory in property values, setting the stage for the boom in the subsequent years.

By 2022, the effects of improved infrastructure and the growing desirability of the Yamuna Expressway as a prime residential and commercial location became evident. Apartment prices surged further, reaching Rs 3,600 – 3,800 per square foot, while land prices nearly doubled to Rs 3,400 – 3,600 per square foot. This year was particularly crucial as it underscored the region’s emergence as a preferred destination for investors and homebuyers alike.

The property market along the Yamuna Expressway witnessed unprecedented growth in 2023. The average price for apartments skyrocketed to Rs 4,900 – 5,100 per square foot, while land prices soared to an impressive Rs 5,900 – 6,100 per square foot. This remarkable growth was largely attributed to several key developments, including the upcoming Jewar Airport, the expansion of the Noida International Airport, and enhanced connectivity through the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC).

As of 2024, the report highlights that apartment prices along the Yamuna Expressway have reached an average of Rs 7,900 – 8,100 per square foot, with land prices now averaging between Rs 6,900 – 7,100 per square foot. This year-on-year surge reflects a 170% increase in apartment prices and a staggering 450% growth in land prices over the past five years, making the Yamuna Expressway one of the fastest-growing real estate corridors in India.

Builder floor prices have also shown a robust increase, with a notable 35.6% rise in just the last year and a 43.5% increase over the past three years. These numbers underscore the growing demand for residential properties in this burgeoning region.

Sunil Sisodiya, Founder of Geetanjali Homestate, commented on the findings: “The remarkable price surge along the Yamuna Expressway can be attributed to several key factors. The strategic location, coupled with the upcoming Jewar Airport and other infrastructural developments, has significantly enhanced the area’s connectivity and appeal. Additionally, the rising demand for residential and commercial spaces, fueled by the growing interest in suburban living, has driven property prices to new heights. The Yamuna Expressway is rapidly emerging as a real estate goldmine, offering substantial returns for investors.”

The report further notes that the increasing preference for spacious living, driven by the remote work culture and the desire for a better quality of life, has played a crucial role in driving demand for properties along the Yamuna Expressway. With its proximity to major urban centers, yet offering the tranquility of suburban living, the region is perfectly poised to attract homebuyers and investors seeking long-term gains.

Geetanjali Homestate’s report underscores the significant potential of the Yamuna Expressway as a prime real estate investment destination. The substantial year-on-year price appreciation across all property segments highlights the region’s growing importance in the Delhi-NCR real estate market. As infrastructural projects near completion and the region continues to develop, the Yamuna Expressway is set to remain a hotspot for real estate investments, offering promising opportunities for both residential and commercial buyers.

Marengo Asia Hospitals Gurugram Performs Pioneering Lumbar Disc Replacement for African Patient

marengo

Gurugram: Marengo Asia Hospitals Gurugram conducted a rare and unusual spine surgery to replace the lumbar disc of an international patient from Nigeria, Africa. *This is the first time such a surgical procedure has been conducted in the city of Gurgaon. Dr Rajesh Kumar Verma, Director Orthopaedics, Joint Replacement & Spine Surgery, Marengo Asia Hospitals Gurugram*, led the surgical procedure.

The patient, *Mr. Bello, a 28-year-old Nigerian national* who had been suffering from severe lower back and leg pain due to L5-S1 disc degeneration for many years, travelled to Gurgaon to get his disc not fixed but replaced. He had sought multiple opinions abroad and in India, most suggesting L5-S1 fusion. The L5- S1 refers to specific vertebrae in the spine, spanning from the end of lumbar to the sacral region.

When the patient consulted Marengo Asia Hospitals Gurugram, he was found to be a perfect candidate for Lumbar Disc Replacement as both he and Dr Verma wanted to avoid fusion as he is young. Lumbar spine fusion surgery in young patients increases stiffness in the back and chances of revision surgery in the future. As the first spine surgeon in Gurgaon to perform this procedure, the doctor and his team aimed to restore his mobility and relieve his pain without increasing any future chances of revision spine surgery.

The Lumbar Disc deployed for replacement is a Swiss , state-of-the art scientifically designed implant to mimic the natural movement of the spine, providing a durable and flexible solution for degenerative disc disease. The surgery was successful, and the-patient experienced a complete resolution of pain and full restoration of his flexibility *the next day of the procedure*. His recovery was swift, and he returned to his daily routine with renewed energy and vitality.

Lumbar disc replacement is a revolutionary surgical procedure designed to treat chronic lower back pain caused by degenerative disc disease (DDD). Unlike traditional spinal fusion surgery, which involves fusing two vertebrae, lumbar disc replacement preserves motion at the affected spinal segment, offering patients an alternative that reduce pain and maintain mobility. Lumbar disc replacement involves an anterior approach through an incision around the belly button and the placement of two titanium plates with a high-quality mobile plastic component in between two plates. By preserving motion, lumbar disc replacement reduces the likelihood of adjacent segment degeneration, a common issue with spinal fusion, where the discs above or below the fused segment experience accelerated wear and tear. Apart from mobility preservation, lumbar disc replacement is superior to fusion and any kind of surgery done from the back side, in terms of preservation of back muscles, as the skin incision is in the front and does not involve any kind of damage to healthy bone, facet joint, ligaments, and muscles of the back.

Not all patients are suitable candidates for lumbar disc replacement. This procedure is typically recommended for younger patients up to 55 years old with one to three levels of disc degeneration. Patients with significant spinal instability, facet joint degeneration, deformity, osteoporosis, and any previous major abdominal surgery are not candidates for disc replacement. Lumbar disc replacement represents a significant advancement in the treatment of degenerative disc disease, offering patients a promising alternative to spinal fusion. By preserving motion and reducing the risk of adjacent segment degeneration, this procedure has the potential to improve the quality of life for individuals suffering from chronic lower back pain. As with any medical treatment, patients need to consult with a qualified spine specialist to determine the best course of action for their specific condition.

Lumbar disc replacement surgery is a more effective and reliable procedure than spinal fusion surgery, with a success rate of over 90%. Lumbar disc replacement once done typically lasts for ever, unlike hip and knee joint replacement which has a life of 20-25 years Some possible risks include bleeding and infection of the artificial disc and area around it . Research reveals that the number of patients undergoing cervical total disc replacement surgery in India has increased by 15–20% annually over the last five years, but lumbar disc replacement is being done at very few centres in India .India is considered a medical hub for patients seeking affordable, accessible, and efficient total disc replacement surgery.
