Rabi Paddy Procurement in Koraput to Commence from June 1, Says Collector; Over 19,000 Farmers Registered

Jeypore, May 13:  Rabi paddy procurement in Koraput district will commence from June 1, as decided during the District-Level Rabi Paddy Procurement Committee meeting. The meeting was held at the Sadbhavana Conference Hall under the chairmanship of District Collector Manoj Satyaban Mahajan.
During the meeting, the district supply department presented the draft plan for procurement of Rabi paddy through mandis (procurement centers). The Collector informed that mandis would open from June 1 and paddy procurement would continue for one month through 91 LAMPS (Large-sized Adivasi Multi-Purpose Cooperative Societies) and 3 Pani Panchayats in the district.
According to official data, 19,296 farmers have registered to sell paddy this season. It was also informed that 8 percent of the rice stock from the previous year has been lifted from millers, while some stock still remains stored.
Discussions were also held on strengthening mandi infrastructure and ensuring protection for farmers and their paddy from Kalbaisakhi storms and heatwave conditions.
Among those present at the meeting were Koraput MLA Raghuram Machh, Pottangi MLA Ramchandra Kadam, Kotpad MLA Rupu Bhatra, Zilla Parishad Chairperson Meleka, Special Development Council Chairperson Bhagaban Muduli, Jeypore Sub-Collector Jadumani Nayak, Chief District Agriculture Officer Bhawani Shankar Mahapatra, DRCS Monika Narayan Ray, departmental officials, and farmers.
Chief District Supply Officer Manas Ranjan Mahapatra conducted the proceedings of the meeting.
