Malkangiri, May 13:  The district administration has initiated an ambitious development drive to give a new momentum to infrastructure and public welfare works in Malkangiri, one of Odisha’s most remote and tribal-dominated districts. A high-level review meeting chaired by District Collector Prathmesh Arvind Rajsirke was held today, where executing agencies were given strict directions to accelerate ongoing projects aimed at transforming the district.
The meeting, conducted in an intensive review mode, placed major emphasis on transportation, bridge construction, drinking water facilities, and tourism development. To integrate border and remote areas with the mainstream, detailed discussions were held regarding the widening of the Motu road and the upgradation of the Malkangiri–Sukma road.
Special attention was also given to the Swabhiman region, known for its difficult terrain and connectivity challenges. The Collector directed officials to expedite the construction of high-level bridges at Jantri and Ghanabeda to improve communication facilities in these remote areas.
Reviewing the status of the proposed Malkangiri airport project, considered a matter of pride for the district, the Collector advised officials to speed up the progress of the project. Similarly, he instructed departments to strengthen drinking water supply and irrigation facilities in inaccessible regions like Jantri so that every household can receive clean drinking water.
The Collector also expressed satisfaction over the quality of roads being constructed under the PMGSY scheme and instructed officials to complete the remaining work without delay. Construction of Anganwadi centres for children and women in rural areas was also reviewed during the meeting.
Keeping in view the natural beauty and tourism potential of the Tulasi Hills region, a separate development and tourism action plan has been prepared for the area. Officials were further instructed to maintain proper coordination with the mining department to ensure uninterrupted supply of sand and other raw materials required for construction works.
A fixed timeline has been set for all projects. The District Collector clearly warned that strict action would be taken against any agency found neglecting its responsibilities or causing delays in project execution.
