Umerkote: Aug 5 [UDN}:A preparatory meeting was held at the Kalyan Mandap on Kandagaan Road to discuss arrangements for the grand celebration of the 80th Sub-Division Level Independence Day in Umerkote.
The meeting was chaired by Umerkote Tahsildar Meghaban Bag. Among those present were Additional Tahsildar Mousumi Sajjan, Minister’s representative Ashok Kumar Padhi, Senior Government Advocate Ram Nayak, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Shubhendu Shabar, the Umerkote Revenue Inspector, and other officials.
As in previous years, various competitions including painting, debate, music, and quiz for school and college students will be organized at the Government S.S. High School and the Women’s College.
It was decided that Nabarangpur MP Balabhadra Majhi would be invited to hoist the national flag. Senior BJP leader Ram Nayak was entrusted with the responsibility of coordinating with the MP.
All government and private institutions in the municipality have been instructed to complete flag hoisting by 7:30 a.m., while the sub-divisional level flag hoisting ceremony has been scheduled for 8:45 a.m.
The meeting also decided to organize a friendly football match between government and private teams at Biju Patnaik Stadium on August 9 as part of the Independence Day celebrations.
Each parade contingent will consist of 25 students. To maintain law and order during the celebrations, responsibilities have been assigned to the concerned police officers and IICs of Umerkote Police Station.
Representatives from government and private schools as well as officials from various government departments also attended the meeting.
