HK Desk 5th February 2025 Jeypore, Officials of the Mo Jagannath Sagar Trust met Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at the Chief Minister’s grievance cell. The trust representatives submitted a request for the restoration of Jagannath Sagar. They demanded the immediate completion of the ongoing restoration work, which has been stalled, and the removal of illegal encroachments.
They alleged that corruption under the guise of beautification has reached its peak, while the people of Jeypore are suffering due to a lack of water. The trust members pointed out that the entire 299-acre Jagannath Sagar, stretching from Panchanan Temple to Christianpeta, has been awaiting restoration for a long time. Despite repeated demands from the people of Jeypore, administrative authorities have ignored the issue.
The officials also mentioned that the boundaries of Jagannath Sagar have not been demarcated. Several departments, including the Minor Irrigation Department, Municipality, and OTDC, have attempted restoration but have instead led to the destruction of the historic water body. The 240-year-old Jagannath Sagar is now on the verge of extinction due to their negligence.
The trust members urged the Chief Minister to issue immediate directives to start the restoration work and ensure its completion before the next monsoon. Mo Jagannath Sagar Trust President Rajanikant Nayak, along with B. Chandra Sekhar Rao, met the Chief Minister and placed their demands.
