Low Pressure System Expected to Develop on 27th

Bhubaneswar, A trough line has formed extending from east-central Arabian Sea to northern Odisha. Due to this system, rainfall is expected to continue across the entire state over the next 24 hours, with possibilities of heavy rainfall in one or two places.

A low-pressure area is likely to form over the north-west Bay of Bengal by the evening of May 27. This system is expected to accelerate the onset of the southwest monsoon in Odisha.

Rain Likely in More Than 15 Districts

With the formation of this low-pressure system, light to moderate rainfall is likely to occur throughout the state starting afternoon of May 27, with intensity increasing over time. This spell of rain may continue till the night of May 30. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy rainfall is expected in coastal Odisha and some other districts on May 28 and 29.

Manorama Mohanty, Director of the Regional Meteorological Science Centre, said that within the next 24 hours, districts like Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Puri, Khordha, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Koraput, Kalahandi, Rayagada, and Nuapada may experience Kalbaishakhi (thunderstorms), accompanied by lightning, rain, and winds blowing at 40–50 km/h. Other districts may also witness thunderstorm activity.

She also clarified that there is no chance of a cyclone forming from this low-pressure area.

In the last 24 hours, many areas in the state have received light to moderate rainfall. The highest rainfall of 80.2 mm was recorded in Lamtaput of Koraput district.
