Nabarangpur: The fire brigade recovered the dead body of Padma Bhatra (38) of Badmasiga village in Nabarangpur district on Friday, after he had gone missing in the Turi River while fecating.
According to reports, Padma had gone to the river on Thursday morning for open defecation. Due to continuous rainfall, the river was swollen and the water level was high. He slipped and was swept away by the strong current.
Locals immediately informed the fire services, but due to the strong current and low visibility, the rescue team could not retrieve the body on Thursday.
On Friday, villagers spotted a body floating about 2 kilometers away from the incident site and again alerted the fire brigade, which then recovered the dead body.
The Kodigaon police outpost has registered a case under Section 9/25 and is treating it as a case of unnatural death.
