Umarkote: A 17-year-old youth from Umarkote has brought pride to Odisha by winning a silver medal at a national-level kickboxing (Muay Thai) competition. The youth is Mohammad Ubaid Hingora, who participated in the 6th National Kickboxing Championship held at MD University, Rohtak, Haryana, and secured second place.
The competition was aimed at athletes below 23 years of age, with over 800 participants from across India. Odisha was represented by 17 athletes, out of whom 5 secured silver medals, and Ubaid was one of them.
Ubaid is currently a student of Class 12 (Arts) at Gurukrupa Public School, Umarkote. He shared that if he had won the gold medal, he would have had the opportunity to participate at the international level. “I will work harder in the future to win gold and represent India internationally,” said Ubaid.
Interestingly, there are no kickboxing coaches in Umarkote, so Ubaid learned the sport by watching videos on YouTube using his mobile phone. Through self-training, he successfully became a national-level athlete.
Ubaid believes that with support from the Nabarangpur district administration, he could reach even greater heights and bring more fame to Odisha. Therefore, there is a general public demand for the administration to take notice and extend its support to him.
Following his achievement, congratulatory messages have been pouring in from various quarters.
