Bhubaneswar, July 20 (UDN): The Odisha Police Cyber Safety and Response Team has strengthened its awareness campaign in Puri during the ongoing Rath Yatra celebrations to protect pilgrims, tourists, and residents from rising cyber fraud risks.
As thousands of devotees gather in Puri for the nine-day festival, the cyber safety team is conducting on-ground awareness drives to educate people about online scams, fake booking websites, and other digital threats. The team has visited hotels and interacted with stakeholders to improve cybersecurity preparedness during the busy festival period.
Officials have raised awareness among hotel operators about fraudulent hotel booking scams targeting visitors and advised them to review their online platforms for possible security issues. The team has also distributed safety guidelines among tourists, hotel owners, and local residents.
During the campaign, the cyber team reached out to more than 1,290 pilgrims and tourists, providing information on safe digital practices and ways to avoid cyber fraud. Authorities have also taken action against fake hotel booking websites found misleading visitors.
Odisha Police has urged devotees and tourists to remain cautious while making online bookings and use only verified platforms. People have been advised not to click on suspicious links or share personal and financial information with unknown sources.
The initiative aims to ensure a safe and secure experience for visitors during Rath Yatra while strengthening public awareness about cyber safety and responsible digital practices.
