Odisha Braces for Three More Days of Kalbaisakhi Storms

Bhubaneswar: The ongoing heatwave in the state is expected to provide temporary relief as Kalbaisakhi-induced rainfall is likely in various parts of Odisha over the next three days. This will reduce the impact of the scorching heat that has persisted for weeks, bringing some respite to the residents.

The impact of Kalbaisakhi will peak on the 3rd and 4th, with heavy rainfall expected in several areas on Wednesday. Wind speeds during this period will range between 50-60 kmph, accompanied by hailstorms. Considering this, the Meteorological Department has issued warnings for multiple districts for the next three days.

As per the weather department’s forecast, on the 2nd, districts such as Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Angul, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Bargarh, Balangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, and Koraput are likely to experience thunderstorms with lightning and rainfall, with wind speeds reaching 40-60 kmph, and the possibility of hailstorms.

In these districts, wind speeds may increase to 40-50 kmph, prompting the issuance of a Yellow Alert. Furthermore, on the 3rd and 4th, the impact of Kalbaisakhi is expected to be more severe, leading to an Orange Alert for multiple districts, including Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Koraput, Kandhamal, and Boudh.
