Anandapur, May 29: Krishna Chandra Hembram, a differently-abled tribal youth, has achieved success in the Odisha Civil Services (OCS) examination by securing the 185th rank. He cleared the examination in his very first attempt. Despite visual impairment and financial hardship, he overcame all challenges through determination and hard work. His achievement has made Anandapur in Keonjhar district proud.
Krishna Chandra belongs to Panchu Gochhia village under Khaliamenta Panchayat in Ghasipura block of Anandapur subdivision. Having lost both his parents in childhood, he has been living with his elder brother and sister-in-law. He was a bright student from an early age.
He studied up to Class 9 at an Eklavya School and later continued his education from Class 10 at the Jawahar Navodaya Institute of Regional Education in Bhubaneswar. After passing Plus Two in 2019, he faced severe financial difficulties. He then approached the then Keonjhar District Collector, Ashish Thakare, who provided him financial assistance of ₹22,375. With this support, Krishna Chandra successfully completed his graduation in Arts and B.Ed.
After completing the four-year B.Ed program, his fortunes changed. He became eligible to work as a teacher at the Eklavya Model Residential School in Bhawanipur, Sundargarh district. Alongside teaching, he continued preparing for civil services with dedication. Without taking any coaching classes, he appeared for both the preliminary and mains examinations. His relentless hard work ultimately paid off.
Krishna Chandra said that his journey toward clearing the Odisha Administrative Service examination was extremely difficult. He achieved this success after facing many struggles and hardships. He expressed gratitude to former District Collector Ashish Thakare for supporting him during his difficult days and wished him well wherever he may be.
He credited his friends, elder brother, sister-in-law, and relatives for his success. Remembering his late parents, Krishna Chandra said that losing them in childhood caused him more pain than poverty or poor eyesight ever did. He said it hurts that his parents are not alive to witness his achievement and share his happiness.
Krishna Chandra stated that his goal is to serve the people through administration. He also said that he plans to prepare for the UPSC examination in the future.
Villagers said that Krishna Chandra’s success has brought pride and honor to the village. They recalled that he had always been deeply interested in studies since childhood. His brother and sister-in-law said they consistently encouraged his education and feel that God has finally answered their prayers.
