Kotpad, Sept 28 [UDN}:The Kotpad administration has stepped up preparedness measures in view of the possibility of continuous heavy rainfall over the next three days under the influence of the prevailing weather system. Following the weather department’s warning, the local administration has intensified its precautionary measures to deal with any possible flood or waterlogging situation.
Although Kotpad is located in a relatively low-lying area, no flood-like situation was reported even after one gate of the Indravati reservoir was opened on Monday. However, with rainfall expected to intensify under the influence of the weather system, residents have expressed concern over the possibility of flooding in vulnerable areas.
Kotpad Block Development Officer (BDO) Sandhyarani Samarth said that the administration is fully alert and prepared to tackle any eventuality. As part of the preparedness measures, an important meeting was held on Tuesday at the block office conference hall with revenue officials, Panchayat Executive Officers (PEOs) and engineers.
The meeting, chaired by the BDO, reviewed the preparedness of the block administration and discussed measures to ensure a prompt response in the event of heavy rainfall, flooding or other weather-related emergencies. Administrative officials were instructed not to remain on leave during the period and to remain available for duty.
Both revenue and block-level personnel were directed to stay alert and closely monitor the situation in their respective areas. Officials were also asked to remain prepared for evacuation, emergency assistance and other relief measures if required.
The BDO said that, if the situation warrants, the administration will undertake relief distribution and ensure that various government assistance and essential services reach affected people without delay.
Additional Tahasildar Parshuram Bhatra, Assistant Engineer Swapna Jamdalia, along with all PEOs, attended the meeting.
