Koraput National Highway Blocked Demanding Arrest of Accused and Compensation for Deceased’s Family

Koraput: A blockade was staged on National Highway-26 in front of Sunabeda Police Station in Koraput district. As a result, thousands of vehicles were stuck for hours along the highway.

According to reports, on 06/06/2025, two youths were seriously injured after being hit by an unidentified vehicle. They were admitted to Sahid Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital, Koraput for treatment. One of the injured youth succumbed to his injuries today during treatment.

Following his death, tensions flared in front of the police station demanding the arrest of the accused driver. Locals placed the deceased’s body on National Highway-26, effectively blocking the road.

The deceased youth has been identified as Deepak Bagh, a resident of Ganjam Colony, Sunabeda. His family and villagers emotionally told the media that the accident was intentional and motivated by personal enmity, and that the two youths were deliberately killed. The driver fled the scene after the incident.

Although a complaint was lodged at Sunabeda Police Station, the public accused the police of inaction, claiming that neither the vehicle nor the driver responsible for the accident had been apprehended.

In protest, the deceased’s family and villagers blocked the highway and staged a gherao of the police station, demanding appropriate compensation for the victim’s family and the immediate arrest of the accused driver.
