Kendujhar, Sept. 29 (UDN): A 42-year-old man was allegedly shot dead by unidentified assailants while he was returning home on a motorcycle in Kendujhar district late Monday night, triggering a police investigation.
The deceased was identified as Trilochan Mohanta, a resident of Khajirapashi village under Turumunga police station. He was the husband of a woman constable.
Ambushed On Isolated Stretch
According to preliminary information, Mohanta operated a Jan Seva Kendra near Kendeipashi Chhak.
After closing his shop at around 11 pm on Monday, he was reportedly riding towards Patana when the attackers, allegedly waiting near a deserted stretch at Khuntapada, opened fire at him.
Mohanta sustained bullet injuries and fell from his motorcycle. The assailants reportedly fled the area immediately after the attack.
Police Begin Investigation
On receiving information, police teams from Turumunga and Patana police stations reached the spot and recovered the body.
The body was subsequently sent for post-mortem examination as part of the investigation.
Police are examining multiple possible motives, including past enmity and a possible robbery attempt, to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing.
Search Underway For Assailants
Police have intensified checking in and around the area to trace the unidentified attackers.
Investigators are also expected to examine available evidence and gather information about Mohanta’s movements before the incident to identify the motive and those responsible for the shooting.
