Jajpur, Sept. 29 (UDN): Panic gripped Tarakot village under Korei block in Odisha’s Jajpur district after a fox entered the locality and attacked 13 people, including a child, eight women and four men, on Monday night.
The incident reportedly occurred around 10 pm, when the animal entered the village and first attacked a child. It subsequently moved through the area and bit several other residents.
13 Injured, Under Treatment
All the injured were taken to the Korei Community Health Centre with the help of local residents.
They are currently undergoing treatment, according to reports.
The sudden attacks have caused concern among villagers, who have been keeping a close watch on the area following the incident.
Forest Team Searches For Fox
After receiving information about the attacks, a team from the Jajpur Road forest range reached Tarakot and began efforts to locate and capture the animal.
Forest officials have also alerted residents and advised them to exercise caution.
The fox had not been captured at the time of reporting, and the search was continuing in and around the village.
Villagers Keep Vigil
With the animal still at large, some residents have reportedly been guarding the locality carrying wooden sticks and poles.
Villagers have been urged not to approach or attempt to capture the fox if they spot it. Forest officials have advised them to immediately inform the department so that trained personnel can respond.
A local resident said villagers were frightened following the repeated attacks and were keeping watch to protect themselves.
