Bhubaneswar: Following the spread of diarrhea in five districts, the Odisha Health Department has issued a statewide alert. All district administrations have been directed to take precautionary measures. Health Secretary Shalini Pandit stated that efforts are underway to disinfect and keep all water sources clean. Hospitals have been instructed to remain fully prepared.
As of 10 AM today, 100 new cases have been reported from five districts. Although the new cases are largely mild in nature, the exact source of the diarrhea outbreak is still unknown. Measures are being taken to identify and sanitize all potential sources.
A review meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary to assess the situation in Jajpur and other affected areas. Health department officials provided detailed updates during the meeting. Surveillance teams are still active, and even the central team is investigating the situation. Another review meeting with health officers is scheduled for tomorrow.
Patients returning to hospitals for a second time are being closely monitored, and those admitted are kept under 24-hour observation. From the samples tested so far, 90% have confirmed cholera. Special attention is being given to cases in Jajpur and other districts showing symptoms of acute diarrhea.
Public awareness campaigns using microphones are ongoing to alert people about preventive measures. The government plans to continue these efforts over the next 7 days.
