Nabarangpur, May 22: A mass marriage ceremony of couples was successfully organized under the ‘Chief Minister’s Daughter Marriage Scheme’ at Dolphin Resort in Nabarangpur town with the joint support of the Nabarangpur district administration and the Women and Child Development Department.
On this occasion, a total of 28 couples were united in marriage following Odia traditions and Vedic chants in a grand manner. In this sacred event organized for economically weaker eligible couples of the district, School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond attended as the chief guest and blessed the newly married couples. He also provided a financial assistance cheque of ₹15,000 to each bride.
The program was attended by MLA and District Planning Board Chairman Gauri Shankar Majhi, District Collector Dr. Maheshwar Swain, Superintendent of Police Sandip Sampad Madkar, Additional District Collector Tapan Kumar Khuntia, Municipal Chairperson Kunu Nayak, Chief Development Officer Biranchi Narayan Darwan, along with various departmental officers, social workers, women leaders, and media representatives.
Under this scheme, a total assistance of ₹60,000 is provided to each eligible bride. Out of this, ₹45,000 is directly deposited into the bank account, while the remaining ₹15,000 is spent on marriage arrangements and essential materials. This initiative is not only financial support but also an important step toward preventing child marriage and dowry practices, and promoting women’s empowerment and social equality.
Eligibility criteria require the bride to be between 18 and 35 years of age and the groom between 21 and 35 years. Priority is given to widows remarrying, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe couples, and differently-abled couples under this scheme.
