Bhubaneswar:April. 28: The state government has decided to revise the English spellings of various place names in accordance with their correct Odia pronunciation. In the first phase, the English spellings of 58 places across 23 districts will be changed. This decision has been taken based on the recommendations of a constituted committee.
In this regard, a public notice has been issued by the Revenue and Disaster Management Department. The Additional Chief Secretary of the department, Dr. Arabinda Padhee, has written to all Members of Parliament, Members of the Odisha Legislative Assembly (through the Assembly Secretariat), and District Collectors across the state.
Through an earlier public notification, the department had already invited suggestions regarding the names of districts, district headquarters, sub-divisions, and tehsils across Odisha. Now, the government has sought public feedback again and has provided one month’s time for citizens to submit their opinions before finalizing the changes.
