Councilors Lock Municipal Office in Protest, Demand Change of Cooperative Secretary

Nabarangpur: In a demand for the replacement of the Cooperative Secretary, the councilors locked the municipal office. The Cooperative Secretary, Bishwopriya Das, has faced criticism from the councilors for irregularities in various development works and the use of foul language towards them. These issues have been ongoing for the past two years, with contractors who were doing their work properly also facing harassment. When they protested, personal attacks were made against them.

A contractor also filed a complaint against the secretary with the district collector. Additionally, it was reported that the secretary used inappropriate language against the councilors and carried out activities outside his official duties. A protest was organized on March 11, demanding action against him.

The councilors, including A. Satish, Amit Pradhan, Sharmistha Deo, Mamata Maharana, Ranjita Panda, Santoshi Jani, Rajeshwari, and Keshab Raju, have met with the district collector and filed their complaints. They have warned that if the secretary is not replaced within seven days, an indefinite protest will continue in front of the municipal office.

The councilors have also made it clear that if no action is taken within the next seven days, they will continue their agitation, which may involve blocking the main entrance of the municipal office. This protest has the support of various members, including Soumya Mahapatra, A. Satish, I. Muruli Krishna, Sharmistha Deo, Ranjita Panda, Amit Pradhan, Purushottam Harijan, and P. Keshab Raju, who were present during the discussions.
