Bhubaneswar, July 14 [UDN}: The Chief Minister has announced a significant hike in wages for Kendu leaf pluckers and binders in Odisha. The remuneration for Kendu leaf collectors has been increased by 10 paise per bundle (keri), while the payment for binders has been raised by 20 paise per leaf packet (phal).
The decision is expected to benefit thousands of families dependent on Kendu leaf collection and processing for their livelihood, especially in tribal and forest regions of the state.
Kendu leaf collection is a major source of seasonal employment in Odisha and plays a crucial role in the rural economy.
The wage hike reflects the state government’s commitment to improving the income and welfare of forest-dependent communities and workers associated with the Kendu leaf trade.
