Bhubaneswar, July 6 (UDN): The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has launched Odisha’s first Bee Corridor along the Puintola–Ichchapuram stretch of National Highway 16 (Package-1), aiming to promote biodiversity and support honeybee conservation.

The project was inaugurated by NHAI Regional Officer for Odisha Pradeep Kumar Lal along with Project Director Suraj Kumar Singh of the Bhubaneswar PIU, in partnership with the concessionaire Puintola Ichchapuram TOT Private Limited.

Officials said the initiative is designed to create a pollinator-friendly ecosystem while balancing infrastructure development with ecological conservation. Following its launch, NHAI plans to expand similar corridors across the state.

As part of the first phase along the Tangi–Ichchapuram stretch, 345 saplings have already been planted. Species such as Jamun, Neem, Drumstick, and Gulmohar have been selected to ensure a steady supply of nectar and pollen for bees and other pollinators, while also enhancing green cover along the highway.
