Vandaniya Baraputra Program Highlights Odia Week Celebrations

Nabarangpur At the Nabarangpur College Auditorium, the “Vandaniya Baraputra” program was organized on the thirteenth day of the Odia Week celebration. The chief guest at the event was Additional District Magistrate (Revenue), Bishwajit Charman. The program began with worship rituals, followed by a collective garlanding of the portraits of the revered Baraputras (great sons of the land).

Dignitaries present on the stage included Nabarangpur College Principal B. Govinda Rao, former Odisha Sahitya Akademi member Ashok Pattnaik, Bulu Hota, District Information & Public Relations Officer Manoj Kumar Behera, and District Culture Officer Ghasia Harijan.

Organized by the District Culture Department in collaboration with the Odisha Sahitya Akademi, the event was moderated by Professor Sambu Hota. Special discussions were held highlighting the dedication, sacrifice, and ideals of the legendary Baraputras of the Odia community, emphasizing their role in preserving Odia identity. Inspired by their legacy, the audience was encouraged to take pride in being Odia and work towards preserving the culture, tradition, and heritage of the state, and to promote its reputation both nationally and internationally.

The chief guest, Additional District Magistrate Bishwajit Charman, highlighted the noble works and life philosophy of one of Nabarangpur’s great sons, Sadashiv Tripathy, and urged everyone to strive in their own way to bring glory to the district.

In the event, seven essayists presented their self-written papers on the lives of notable figures such as Sadashiv Tripathy, literary personality Bhagirath Patra, revolutionary Ravi Singh Majhi, poets Tripurari Tripathy and Manjughosh Tripathy, Chhanda poet Raghunath Pattnaik, and language artist Mani Ram Gand.

Poets, essayists, and writers from almost all blocks of the district participated, reciting their own compositions. A total of 36 poets and 7 essayists presented their original poems and essays. All participating poets and writers were awarded certificates.

Kotpad Celebrates Peaceful Bali Yatra After 19 Years

Kotpad, : The Bali Yatra organized by the Kotpad Management Committee was celebrated peacefully and with great enthusiasm. This year’s celebration, which lasted for 47 days, witnessed a much larger turnout of devotees compared to previous years.

A grand procession circled the town and reached the Bhima Temple premises, where a massive gathering of devotees paid homage. The Puja Committee and administration took extensive measures to ensure peace and order throughout the festivities.

The grand procession began from the sacred seat of the local Sheetala Thakurani Temple and saw thousands of devotees participating. Women dressed in traditional attire carrying kalash (holy pots) and men led the devotional procession to the immersion site, creating a deeply spiritual and festive atmosphere.

Following the main rituals, various cultural programs continued late into the night, offering entertainment and devotion in equal measure.

The event was marked by grandeur. Around 300 young men and women participated in kalashi dance performances, while hundreds of other devotees took part in the immersion ceremony. During this, newly harvested crops were also ceremonially immersed as an offering, showcasing gratitude for nature’s bounty.

Ramcharitmanas Recitation Enchants Devotees at Radhakanta Temple, Chaudhury Sahi

Mahanga: On the auspicious occasion of Shri Ram Navami, a festive atmosphere prevailed at the Radhakanta Temple premises in Chaudhury Sahi of Jhajeswarpur village under Mahanga Block. A sacred recitation of the Ramcharitmanas, written by Saint Tulsidas, was organized here.

The Ramcharitmanas is considered a priceless and sacred scripture in Hinduism. Its emotional depth and spiritual resonance have led to its translation into many regional languages, deeply influencing devotees across communities. As in previous years, this year too, a 9-day long recitation event is being held at the temple premises of Radhakanta Ji, beginning from Ram Navami and continuing till Purnima (full moon).

This annual tradition has been ongoing since ancient times at this sacred site. Devotees believe that no one ever returns empty-handed from the sanctum of Lord Raghunath here. A large number of devotees gather to listen to the Manas recitation, which is known for its unique spiritual ambiance.

During the nine-day event, villagers arrange for prasad (holy food offering) to be served to all attending devotees daily. On the final day—Purnima—a special Dasa Yatra (procession) is conducted in a grand manner.

Santosh Kumar Praharaj led the organization of the event, with the active support of other villagers including Debiprasad Prakaraj, Gokulananda Praharaj, Nandakishore Mohapatra, Pabitra Mohan Praharaj, Shrinibas, and Nrusingha Charan Praharaj.

Inter-District Pension Court Convened in Sambalpur to Address Pending Claims

Sambalpur An Inter-District Pension Adalat (court) was held at the District Council Conference Hall in Sambalpur under the initiative of the Odisha Government’s Department of General Administration and Public Grievance, in collaboration with the Principal Accountant General.

Over 500 pensioners and beneficiaries from Sambalpur, Bargarh, Deogarh, and Jharsuguda districts attended the event to seek redressal of their long-pending pension-related issues. The court received 217 pension-related grievances, 269 cases related to General Provident Fund (GPF), and 81 pertaining to gratuity and retirement benefits.

At the beginning of the program, the AG office showcased the status and reasons behind pending pension, gratuity, provident fund, and related benefits, along with potential resolutions.

Among the dignitaries present were Sambalpur Collector Siddheshwar Baliram Bondar, Director of General Administration and Public Grievance Nihar Ranjan Dash, Deputy Accountant General Sanjay Kumar, Additional Secretary of the Chief Minister’s Grievance Cell Prafulla Kumar Swain, Municipal Commissioner Vedabhushan, Additional District Magistrate Sudhanshu Kumar Bhoi, Deputy Director of Accounts Asit Kumar Pani, Senior Accounts Officers Manoranjan Panigrahi and Sudam Sethy.

Other officials like Assistant Accounts Officers Manish Kumar, Soumyaranjan Maharana, Purushottam Bal, Jami Sanjay Kumar, and Kaushik Kumar Kabi, along with other senior district administration officers, helped manage and conduct the proceedings.

New Block Education Officer Takes Charge, Vows to Prioritize Quality Education

Tentulikhunti: Sudipta Kumar Das has taken charge as the new Block Education Officer (BEO) of Tentulikhunti block in Nabarangpur district. ABEO Mohan Madhusudan Bag welcomed him to the position. Prior to this, he was serving in Rayagada.

After a long gap, a permanent BEO has been appointed in the block, which has brought joy to teachers and educators.

Sudipta Kumar Das stated that he will work towards effective implementation of the new education policy and resolving issues in schools. Among the three ABEO positions in the block, only one is currently filled. He assured that he will discuss these issues with the administration and take necessary steps for improvement.

Capital Hospital-PGIIMER Achieves Milestone with Minimally Invasive Pancreatitis Surgery

Bhubaneswar: A complex pancreatitis surgery was successfully performed without opening the abdomen at Capital Hospital–PGIIMER’s Gastro Surgery and Oncology department. The intricate operation was conducted laparoscopically over 12 hours. The patient is currently in stable condition.

Professor Dr. Srikant Patra, who led the surgery, is receiving wide acclaim for this achievement.

12-Hour Laparoscopic Surgery

The surgery was performed under the leadership of Professor Srikant Patra and his dedicated team. Pancreatic cancer surgery is considered one of the most complicated abdominal operations. Last Saturday, after 12 continuous hours of effort, the team successfully completed the surgery using laparoscopy.

Dr. Patra was supported by Associate Professor Dr. Priyambada Sahu, anesthesiologist Dr. Shriram Das, Dr. B.V. Ravikumar, and the entire OT team. The surgery began at 9 AM and concluded at 10 PM.

Senior medical support came from Surgical Department HOD Dr. Sushil Pattnaik, Anesthesia HOD Dr. Nihar Senapati, and former PGIIMER Director Professor Nibedita Pani, among others.

The patient, 50-year-old Gagan Lenka from Naugaon in Jagatsinghpur district, had been suffering from abdominal pain for some time and was diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis. Later, he developed pancreatic cancer. Mr. Lenka approached Professor Patra for treatment, who after thorough examination, scheduled laparoscopic surgery.

Laparoscopy First Introduced at Capital Hospital in 2022

Professor Patra stated that the first open abdominal surgery was done at Capital Hospital in September 2022. Since then, many complex and risky operations requiring 25–30 cm abdominal incisions were performed. These surgeries caused significant pain, longer recovery times, and life-threatening complications.

However, last Saturday marked the first successful laparoscopic surgery of such complexity at the hospital. Dr. Patra added that if the state government introduces robotic surgery facilities, major surgeries can be performed much more easily and in less time.

Shishu Batika Training Camp Empowers Educators in Nabarangpur

Nabarangpur  As part of the National Education Policy, a five-day block-level second phase training camp on the Shishu Batika curriculum has commenced at the premises of Sindhiguda High School under Nandahandi Block. Under the direction of District Education Officer Chhatrapati Sahu, the training camp was inaugurated with Nandahandi Block Senior Cluster Education Officer Srikant Jani attending as the chief guest.

Honored guest Additional Cluster Education Officer Harihara Behera was also present and inaugurated the program. Senior Mandal Education Officers of Nandahandi Block provided training to teachers and educators during the camp.

FLN (Foundational Literacy and Numeracy) teachers and educators from 27 schools of Nandahandi Block are participating in the training. Resource persons Himanshu Gouda, Suprabha Tripathy, Megha Manjari, and Bikram Das are conducting the sessions.

Jagannath Express Now Connects Chandahandi and Jharigaon to Brahmapur

Brahmapur A new bus named Jagannath Express has started operating from Chandahandi and Jharigaon to Brahmapur. This is set to benefit the residents of both blocks. A Volvo bus has been launched from Jharigaon block headquarters to Brahmapur. The bus departs from Jharigaon at 6:30 PM and travels via Jaypur, Rayagada, and Digapahandi, reaching Brahmapur by 5:00 AM the next morning.

It then departs from Brahmapur at 6:00 PM for Chandahandi and is scheduled to reach Jharigaon by 6:00 AM the following day. This is great news for the hundreds of families residing in the Chandahandi and Jharigaon blocks of Ganjam district. This new service offers a convenient travel option for those heading to Brahmapur for various needs, including health services at MKCG Medical College.

The inaugural journey of the bus took place last evening. On the first day, many dignitaries were present at the launch event at the Jharigaon bus stand, including MP representative Chandrabhanu Nayak, youth social workers Abhisek Nanda, Prafulla Pradhan, Girish Panda, Sudam Tiwari, Biki Rath, Bishwajit Nayak, Ganapati Sahu, and Chaitanya Nadia. A traditional coconut-breaking ritual and prayers were held during the ceremony.

All seats were filled on the first day itself. Additionally, half-ticket fares are available for women, and tickets can also be booked online. The launch of this new Volvo bus has generated a great deal of excitement among the public of both Jharigaon and Chandahandi.

Koraput District Collector Honoured with Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration

Koraput: Koraput District Collector, Shri Kirthi Vasundhara, has been selected for the Prime Minister’s Award for 2025 for his outstanding contributions in implementing various government schemes effectively. These schemes include the Prime Minister’s Mother Bandana Yojana, Anganwadi Nutrition, PM Solar Home Scheme, Pradhan Mantri Bijli Yojana, Vishwakarma Yojana, Farmers’ Cards, Mission Vaccination, PM Jan Arogya Yojana, Har Ghar Jal (Water Life Mission), and PM Urban and Rural Housing Schemes.

Koraput has been recognized as one of the top five districts in the country, out of 712 districts, for successfully implementing these schemes in collaboration with the administration and the public. As a result, Koraput has been honored as the best district in the country. The award will be presented to Shri Vasundhara on Civil Services Day, 21st April.
