Nabarangpur District: The town of Umarkote, the second largest city in Nabarangpur district and a major business hub, has recently gained subdivision status after many years. However, for some time, certain offices and departments in the city had been without any functioning staff. In the last four months, various positions such as police, municipal council members, and other offices had been left vacant.
Now, slowly, these vacant positions are being filled. This month, Alok Kumar Anugulia joined as the Executive Officer of the Municipal Council. Additionally, Manoj Kumar Meher is expected to join as the Development Officer in the coming days.
However, the SDPO (Sub-Divisional Police Officer) position has remained vacant for five months, and the police station head post has been vacant for two months. These two positions are crucial to be filled immediately as the crime rate in the region is reportedly increasing day by day.
Despite this, several officers who have been in the area for years are reluctant to leave their posts. There needs to be a change, as these positions are essential for smooth functioning. It is necessary for the state government, district authorities, and district administration to pay attention to this matter.
