Umarkote, A memorandum has been submitted by the organization “Bipadara Bandhu Sangha” demanding the repair of CCTV cameras installed at key locations of Umarkote town, and improvement of street lighting across the town. Municipal Executive Officer Alok Kumar Anugulia received the memorandum and assured that the issues would be resolved soon.
Umarkote, a major town in Nabarangpur district, consists of 14 wards with a population of around 40,000. To ensure public safety and control theft and robbery, the municipal administration had installed CCTV cameras at prominent locations around four years ago, spending lakhs of rupees.
However, currently none of the cameras are operational, and most have even been stolen. As a result, cases of theft, robbery, and traffic issues are increasing day by day.
Additionally, many electric poles in the town do not have any lighting, creating visibility and safety concerns at night. Hence, the Sangha has demanded in the memorandum that all electric poles be equipped with functional lights, all CCTV cameras be repaired, and new cameras be installed at key locations to ensure better security in the city.
