Bhubaneswar/R. Udayagiri, April 16(BNP): A pall of gloom descended over Rubudisingh area in Odisha’s Gajapati district after two minor girl students lost their lives when a school boundary wall collapsed on Wednesday.
According to reports, the victims—Idanti Raita (9), a Class IV student, and Bekilesa Raita (10), a Class V student—were playing near the boundary wall of Rubudisingh Primary School after classes had ended. Locals alleged that the wall had been in a dilapidated condition for several years. It suddenly collapsed, trapping the two girls underneath and leading to their deaths.
On receiving information, police rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation. The bodies were later sent to Paralakhemundi Hospital for post-mortem examination.
The tragic incident has left the local community in shock and raised serious concerns over the safety and maintenance of school infrastructure in the region.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed deep sorrow over the incident, terming it unfortunate. He ordered a detailed inquiry by the Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC), Southern Division, to ascertain the circumstances leading to the mishap.
Further action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.
