Tragic Road Mishap in Ganjam: 6 Dead After Bus Hits Auto-Rickshaw

Purushottampur, May 23 (BNP): A devastating road accident in Odisha’s Ganjam district left six people dead and four others critically injured after a speeding passenger bus allegedly rammed into an auto-rickshaw near Ladakapalli Chhak under the Purushottampur police limits on Friday.

According to preliminary reports, around 10 members of a family were travelling in the auto-rickshaw to offer prayers at the renowned Maa Singhasini shrine when the tragedy struck. Eyewitnesses claimed that the speeding bus hit the three-wheeler from behind and dragged it for a considerable distance, leaving the vehicle completely crushed.

The collision was so severe that three passengers reportedly died on the spot, while the remaining injured were rescued by local residents and police personnel and rushed to Kodala Medical for immediate treatment. However, doctors declared three more victims dead upon arrival, raising the death toll to six.

The four surviving passengers, who sustained serious injuries, were later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for advanced treatment. Medical officials said their condition remains critical.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are examining the circumstances surrounding the crash. The tragic mishap has triggered fresh concerns over reckless driving and road safety, particularly on busy routes in the district.
