Nabarangpur: A female laborer engaged in road construction work died after falling from a tractor trolley. Villagers blocked the road, demanding compensation.
The incident took place near Gamiada village under Banuaguda Panchayat in Jharigaon block, Nabarangpur district. According to reports, 11 female laborers from Gamiada village were being transported in a tractor to clean the dust off the road before bitumen paving on the Jharigaon-Dabugaon road, which is under the Public Works Department (PWD). However, due to a sudden malfunction of the tractor’s hydraulic system, the trolley unexpectedly lifted, causing the workers sitting inside to fall onto the road.
Among them, Gama Gauda sustained critical injuries and was immediately taken to Jharigaon hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Protests and Roadblock by Villagers
Angry villagers staged a road blockade on the Jharigaon-Dabugaon road, demanding compensation for the victim’s family. Upon receiving the news, police reached the scene and assured compensation, persuading the protestors to lift the blockade.
Tractor Lacked Proper Safety Features
Reports indicate that the tractor involved in the accident did not have a number plate, and its rear safety railing was also missing. Had the tractor been properly equipped, such a tragic accident might have been prevented.
