Tragic Accident: Bike Falls 40 Feet from Bridge, Killing Two, One Critical

Nandapur: A tragic accident occurred in Koraput district’s Nandapur block on the Jeypore-Visakhapatnam state highway near Duruba bridge in Chatuwa Panchayat, where a motorcycle fell 40 feet below the bridge, resulting in the death of two people and leaving one critically injured.

The deceased have been identified as Gangadhar Khara (30) and Krushnachandra Gemel (35) from Kenalguda. The injured person, Jagabandhu Kinchoi (40) from Espoot village in Sardam Panchayat of Semiliguda block, was initially taken to Nandapur Community Health Center and later shifted to Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital in Koraput for further treatment.

The incident occurred early Thursday morning when the three victims were returning home after attending the Shivratri festival and a play in Chatuwa on Wednesday night. Reports suggest that their motorcycle lost control and plunged 40 feet from the bridge.

Police from Padua station recovered the bike and the bodies from the riverbed beneath the bridge and have launched an investigation, as confirmed by station officer Ashok Bishoi. The police are conducting an inquiry based on the complaints filed by the victims’ families. After the post-mortem, the bodies will be handed over to their respective families.

The accident spot has a sharp curve near the bridge, but no warning signs or caution boards have been placed by the authorities on either side of the road. As a result, frequent accidents involving vehicles have been reported in the area.
