PURUSHOTTAMPUR,May 11 (BNP): A devastating LPG cylinder explosion at a residence in Sunathar village has left five members of a single family fighting for their lives. The blast, suspected to have been triggered by a gas leakage, occurred on Sunday, resulting in critical burn injuries and extensive property damage.
Summary of the Incident
The explosion took place within the confines of the family home under the Purushottampur police limits. Preliminary investigations suggest that a significant gas leak had filled the kitchen area; when an ignition source was introduced—reportedly while the cylinder was being handled—a massive blast occurred. The force of the explosion was felt throughout the neighborhood, causing immediate panic among local residents.
Casualties and Medical Status
All five family members present at the time sustained severe burn injuries.
Immediate Response: Local villagers were the first on the scene, braving the smoke to rescue the victims and transport them to the nearest government hospital.
Current Status: Due to the “critical” nature of their injuries and the percentage of burns sustained, medical authorities have referred several victims to a higher-specialty medical facility for advanced trauma care and plastic surgery intervention.
Official Response and Investigation
Fire services and Purushottampur Police personnel arrived shortly after the blast to secure the site and conduct a safety sweep.
“The preliminary evidence points toward a sustained gas leak from the cylinder or the regulator assembly,” a police spokesperson stated. “Our forensic teams are currently examining the debris to determine if the equipment was faulty or if the connection was improper.”
Public Safety Urgent Notice
In light of this tragedy, local authorities and fire services have issued an urgent safety advisory to the public:
Routine Inspection: Regularly check the rubber tube (Suraksha pipe) for cracks and ensure the regulator is turned off when not in use.
The ‘Smell’ Test: If you smell gas, do not operate any electrical switches or light matches. Open all windows and doors immediately.
Replacement: Ensure cylinders are replaced only by authorized delivery personnel and that they perform a “leak test” upon installation.
