Jeypore, May 13:: A detailed discussion was held at the residence of Jeypore MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati in Jeypore regarding the revival of the Jeypore Paper Mill. Representatives of four employees’ unions participated in the meeting, where various issues related to reopening the mill and safeguarding the livelihood of workers were discussed extensively.
The primary objective of the discussion was to make the mill operational again at the earliest and ensure economic security for thousands of employees and their families. Bahinipati stated that efforts had already been made at different levels in the past, including discussions with both the previous BJD government, the present BJP government, and the management of the mill.
He emphasized that the Jeypore Paper Mill is not merely an industrial establishment but is considered the “lifeline” of Jeypore, as thousands of families directly depended on it for their livelihood, hopes, and future. He recalled that he had raised the issue of reviving the mill during Zero Hour in the Odisha Legislative Assembly on March 11, 2026, and has continued his efforts since then to push the matter forward.
During the meeting, Bahinipati also mentioned that Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi had repeatedly made positive assurances on various platforms regarding the revival of the paper mill. However, since no concrete action has yet been implemented, he urged all four employees’ unions to unite and seriously work together towards restarting the mill.
The MLA further called upon all employees to participate in a protest demonstration scheduled to be held in front of the Koraput District Collector’s office on the 19th of this month, demanding immediate steps for reopening the mill.
