Balikuda, May 13: The 2570th sacred birth anniversary of Tathagata Buddha was celebrated at Udayagiri, the Buddhist site in Badachana block, under the International Shobhaniya Movement. From early morning, a peace procession was carried out from the Shobhaniya Shikshashram to the Buddhist site.
Jajpur MP Dr. Rabindra Narayan Behera inaugurated the program by hoisting the flag of humanity. At Madhavpur Mahavihara, a discussion meeting was held under the chairmanship of the president of the movement, Arunadhati.
The discussion was themed “We want peace, not war; let wars in the world end; Buddha is needed, not war.” In his address, chief guest and inaugurator Dr. Behera shared information about the development of the Hirak Triangle, its place in world heritage, and the steps being taken by his government regarding the establishment of Pushpagiri University and a museum at Udayagiri.
Chief speaker Dr. Harishchandra Pusti, a Buddhist researcher, said that Udayagiri is a wonder of the world and that the message of peace from here spreads across the globe.
Guest of honour Professor Ashok Behera stated that Buddha, Gandhi, Vivekananda, and the founder of the Shobhaniya Movement, revered Kumar Bhai, all shared the goal of establishing peace in the world.
On this occasion, rituals such as abhishek (ceremonial bathing), worship, and offering of Sujata Kheer were performed before the Buddha idol at Madhavpur Mahavihara. Students of the Shikshashram sang Buddha Vandana from Kumar Bhai’s compositions.
Members of the movement including Minati Devi, Barada Mohanty, Manorama Devi, Gitanjali Guruma, Kedaralakshmi Das, and Jayshree Guruma managed the event. Life member of the movement, lecturer Indramani Nayak, delivered the vote of thanks.
