Protest Mounts: Demand to Cancel Unified Automation System, Push for Primary Teacher Appointments

Bhubaneswar: Under the leadership of Brahmananda Maharana, President of the Primary School Teachers’ Association, and General Secretary Bibhuprasad Rayakari, along with a three-member delegation, the association met with the Commissioner and Secretary of the Mass Education Department and submitted a memorandum demanding the immediate cancellation of the Unified Automation System.

They emphasized that, with the expansion of two additional grades in primary education, the number of primary teacher posts should be increased from 1,66,000 to 2,10,000. The delegation also demanded that the current system of appointing “Skimatic” (temporary) teachers in primary education be abolished and replaced with regular teacher appointments.

Among other demands were the provision of salaries to primary teachers at par with central pay scales, as done in other states, the inclusion of six national increments during the six-year contractual period in the calculation of regular service, the enactment of a separate law for inter-district transfers of primary teachers, and timely promotions for primary teachers.
