Umerkote: The Odisha government has released guidelines for the “Developed Villages, Developed Odisha” initiative. The state government had instructed district collectors to prepare and submit a five-year development plan for each village by the end of February. Based on this directive, guidelines were sent to the Block Development Officers (BDOs).
As per the new guidelines, the state government has allocated ₹9,000 crore in the budget for the “Developed Villages, Developed Odisha” scheme. This funding will be distributed among all Panchayats, with priority given to backward and tribal-dominated areas.
An independent meeting was held today in the Umerkote Block Office to discuss the implementation of the scheme. Lakshmi Sagar Majhi, the Group Development Officer, participated in the meeting and presented proposals. In Umerkote block, 26 Panchayats have been allocated a total expenditure of ₹650.89 crore. The funds were distributed among Panchayats based on population size, as informed by the BDO.
Project proposals were collected through independent Gram Sabha meetings, and they were later approved by the Panchayat Samiti. However, some Sarpanches and Samiti members expressed dissatisfaction over disproportionate fund allocations and created a commotion during the meeting.
