Bhubaneswar, Sept. 23 (UDN): The Odisha Police have intensified the statewide ‘Daman’ campaign against criminals and anti-social elements ahead of the upcoming festive season, with 109 non-bailable warrants (NBWs) executed and 148 excise cases registered since September 21.
The special drive, being conducted under the direction of Director General of Police Vinayatosh Mishra, involves district police units, commissionerate police, railway police and other specialised wings.
According to the State Police Headquarters, the campaign will continue across Odisha until September 30, with intensified enforcement measures planned in the coming days.
Crackdown On Criminal Activities
As part of the operation, police have initiated proceedings against 40 persons under Section 129 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
The excise enforcement drive has also resulted in the arrest of six persons. Police seized around 895 litres of country liquor, 193 litres of foreign liquor, 98 litres of Aska-40 and 209 litres of country mahuli during the operation.
The anti-drug campaign resulted in 15 cases being registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, with 18 persons arrested.
Police seized approximately 1,918 kg of ganja, 63.628 grams of brown sugar and 60 bottles of cough syrup, besides vehicles, mobile phones and cash allegedly connected with illegal drug activities.
Action Against Gambling, Illegal Chanda Collection
Police teams also conducted raids against gambling activities and alleged illegal collection of chanda.
Ten persons were arrested in two gambling cases, while three persons were arrested in three cases related to alleged illegal chanda collection. Cash and mobile phones were seized during the operations.
In a separate crackdown on illegal firearms, police seized one gun along with ammunition.
The enforcement drive has also included 151 blocking and border-sealing operations at vulnerable locations to check the movement of criminals and prevent organised criminal activities.
Focus On Festival Security
The State Police Headquarters said enforcement measures would be strengthened further during the remaining period of the campaign.
The statewide operation is aimed at preventing criminal activities, maintaining law and order and ensuring a secure environment for the public during the upcoming festival season.
