Bhubaneswar, Aug 29 [UDN}:National Sports Day 2026 will be celebrated across all schools from August 28 to August 30, 2026, with the objective of promoting sports, physical fitness, discipline, teamwork and a healthy lifestyle among students.
As part of the three-day observance, schools will organize a variety of sports and physical activities, competitions, awareness programmes and other engaging events to encourage students to actively participate in sports and understand their importance in everyday life.
The celebration is intended to highlight the vital role of sports and physical education in the overall development of children and young people. Regular participation in sports helps students improve their physical fitness, mental well-being, confidence, concentration, discipline and leadership skills.
Schools are expected to encourage maximum participation of students in various indoor and outdoor sporting activities during the celebration. Students may take part in athletics, football, volleyball, kabaddi, kho-kho, badminton and other traditional and recreational games, depending on the facilities and arrangements available at individual schools.
The National Sports Day celebration also aims to create greater awareness among students about the importance of maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle. Through sports activities and awareness programmes, students will be encouraged to develop the habit of regular exercise and participation in physical activities.
The three-day programme will also provide an opportunity for schools to recognize and encourage talented young sportspersons and motivate students to pursue their sporting interests alongside their academic education.
