Koraput Comes Alive with Devotion During Chaitra Navaratri as Goddess Bimala Appears in Brahmacharini Form

Koraput: The district of Koraput becomes lively during Chaitra Navaratri, also known as Sharadiya or Basantika Durga Puja. In the Shabara Shreekhetra, the Navaratri Durga Puja has begun, dedicated to Goddess Kshetraeshwari Bimala. Each day, the Goddess is worshipped in one of the nine forms of Navadurga, and as per tradition, a symbolic sacred pot (Kalasha Yatra) is taken out every evening.

Accompanied by traditional music, drums, cymbals, and the chanting of devotees, the sacred Kalasha is carried in a grand procession through different streets. Devotees offer prasad, including pitha (traditional cakes), coconut, sugarcane, and fruits, as a form of worship. This year, devotees have been particularly excited to witness the festival and the presence of the sacred Kalasha in their localities.

On the first day, Goddess Bimala appeared in the form of Shailaputri, and on the second day, she was adorned as Deva-Durlabha Brahmacharini, drawing huge crowds of devotees to the temple.

Grand Procession Through Various Localities

On March 29, the Kalasha procession covered areas such as Pada Line, Paraja Sahi, Puchila Sahi, Town Cinema Hall, PWD, Banabharati Colony, and Hatapada.
On March 30, the procession moved through Bhanda Sahi, Kumhara Sahi, Pujariput Medical Area, while on March 31, it passed through Block Colony, Bishwal, and surrounding areas.

The Kalasha continued its journey on April 1 through Police Line, Tikira Sahi, Kukuda Farm, Rath Sharma Colony, followed by visits to PHD Colony, Gandhi Nagar, and Ashok Nagar on April 5.
On April 6, the procession visited Colony areas, Pujariput Stadium, and other key locations.

Additionally, the Kalasha made rounds in Gautam Nagar (April 1), Amin Line, Mali Sahi, Kolab Colony, Officers’ Colony, and Postal Colony (April 2), Hati Line, LIC Colony, Jail Colony, and Town area (April 3), covering various neighborhoods.

Temple Administration Ensures Smooth Arrangements

The temple authorities have ensured all necessary arrangements for the smooth conduct of the evening Kalasha procession and associated rituals.
