Struggles and hardships often challenge individuals, but relentless effort and unwavering focus can lead to remarkable success. A prime example of this is the achievement of two tribal girls, Magai Majhi and Subhashree Singh, who became Kho Kho World Champions.
The Kho Kho World Championship was held in New Delhi from the 13th to the 19th of this month. In the finals, the Indian women’s team defeated Nepal with a score of 78-40 to claim victory. Magai and Subhashree played a pivotal role in leading the team to success from the league rounds to the final.
Pursuing a career in traditional sports like Kho Kho and establishing an independent identity is no easy task. However, these two girls have etched their names in the history of sports, both for the country and their state. They earned the honor of becoming the first-ever champions in the history of the sport.
Magai hails from Kasandara village in Rayagada district, while Subhashree comes from Mirigiri village under Nilgiri in Balasore district. Both were born into economically disadvantaged tribal families but have risen above their circumstances to bring pride to their nation.
