Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi visited the Kalinga Studio and instructed officials to develop it into a fully self-sustained, state-of-the-art studio. He has directed the concerned department to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for this purpose.
It is noteworthy that the studio, established in 1980, was once renowned as the only advanced film production studio in Eastern India, equipped with modern technology. However, over time, due to the lack of updated equipment and professional facilities, its demand gradually declined. The process of its modernization is currently underway.
After assuming office, the new government has prioritized the upgradation of this studio. In the first phase of development, several components have already been established, including the tech building, entrance plaza, indoor shooting facilities, Kalinga Movie Magic, Avenue Land, Village Area, Iconic Landmark, Snow World, community hall, bamboo structures, water body, and green areas. The Chief Minister has instructed departmental officials to complete the remaining works at the earliest. The development work is being carried out by IDCO.
The Chief Minister stated that the development of this studio is crucial for the growth of Odia cinema. With all modern facilities and amenities, it will be transformed into a fully functional studio. He also mentioned that the development will be done in consultation with all stakeholders from the film industry.
Accompanying the Chief Minister during the visit were Industry and Skill Development Minister Shri Sampad Charan Swain. Additional Chief Secretary of the Industries Department, Shri Hemant Sharma, briefed the Chief Minister about the project work. Director of Odisha Film Development Corporation, Shri Samarth Verma, and Director of IDCO, Shri Bhupinder Singh Poonia, were also present.
