New Delhi: Indian Railways has initiated efforts to develop trains capable of running at a speed of 280 km/h. A bullet train project is underway, which will operate at a speed of 320 km/h between Mumbai and Ahmedabad. However, according to government records, any train exceeding a speed of 130 km/h is classified as ‘high-speed.’
As per official documents, until July 3, 1989, trains running at speeds of up to 110 km/h were considered high-speed. Later, amendments were made, and trains exceeding 110 km/h were classified as high-speed.
On November 24, 2020, the Railway Board revised its circular regarding the replacement of assistant loco pilots with co-pilots. The amendment clarified that trains operating at a maximum speed of 130 km/h would no longer be classified as ‘high-speed.’ Only those exceeding 130 km/h would be considered high-speed.
