India Faces Diabetes Crisis: 73percent Surge Predicted by 2050

New Delhi According to the International Diabetes Federation, the number of diabetes patients in India is expected to increase by 73% by the year 2050. It is estimated that by then, the diabetic population in India will exceed 150 million. The report attributes this alarming rise to disordered lifestyles, unhealthy eating habits, mental stress, and lack of physical activity.

The foundation has issued some recommendations for diabetes prevention. The report highlights the importance of waking up early in the morning, as early sunlight has a positive effect on insulin secretion in the human body. Drinking water soaked with fenugreek (methi) seeds in the morning is also advised. One teaspoon of fenugreek seeds soaked overnight in water and consumed in the morning helps regulate blood sugar levels.

Practicing at least 10 minutes of yoga or pranayama (breathing exercises) in the morning can help protect against diabetes. Additionally, consuming cinnamon and cloves boiled in water and drinking the decoction after some time helps keep blood sugar levels under control.

The report also cautions against the common habit of checking mobile phones immediately after waking up, as it can lead to mental stress and hormone imbalance. Instead, one should spend a few moments sitting quietly after getting out of bed, which can help stabilize blood sugar levels.

Health experts advise not to skip breakfast. A healthy breakfast that includes appropriate amounts of carbohydrates and protein can help protect against diabetes.
