Hirakud, July 20 [UDN}: The authorities have opened four sluice gates of the Hirakud Reservoir to regulate the rising water level following continuous rainfall in the upper catchment areas. Of the four gates, three are located on the left bank and one on the right bank. Floodwater is being released in a controlled manner through these gates to maintain the reservoir at a safe operating level and effectively manage the increased inflow. The water discharge is being closely monitored by the concerned authorities to ensure the safety of downstream areas while minimizing the risk of flooding. Residents living along the downstream stretches of the Mahanadi River have been advised to remain alert and follow official advisories as water levels in the river may rise due to the controlled release from the reservoir.
