Bhubaneswar: After receiving assurances regarding their demands, the Odisha Health Mission Employees’ Association has decided to call off their 25-day-long protest. On Friday, the employees returned to work. The decision was taken following discussions with the Health Department, as informed by the association’s president, Aniruddha Panda.
A meeting was held in the presence of Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling, Health Secretary, the Director of the Health Mission, and a six-member delegation from the association, including advisor Jagannath Pradhan.
During the meeting, Minister Mahaling stated that after the launch of the Ayushman Bharat scheme, a high-level committee would be formed to take necessary steps immediately. He also requested the association representatives to suspend the protest.
Advisor Jagannath Pradhan and MLA Babu Singh, representing the government, visited the protest site and held discussions with the protesting employees, urging them to call off the agitation. Subsequently, the Health Mission Employees’ Association decided to suspend the protest after internal discussions.
The delegation included General Secretary Gopabandhu Kara, Treasurer Ashutosh Mishra, Vice President Naveen Behera, Joint Secretary Pradeep Mall, and Convenor Sanjay Parida. According to reports, the protest was centered around demands for public health cadre positions and permanent appointments.
