Bhubaneswar: After the spread of diarrhea in five districts, the State Health Department has issued an alert to all districts. The Health Secretary has directed all districts to take precautionary measures.
Health Secretary Shalini Pandit stated that steps are being taken to clean and disinfect water sources. Hospitals have also been instructed to stay prepared.
By 10 AM today, 10 new diarrhea cases were reported from five districts. Most of these cases have been categorized as mild. The exact source of the outbreak has not been identified yet, but efforts are underway to sanitize all potential sources.
Awareness campaigns using loudspeakers are being carried out to inform the public. The directive is to continue this activity for the next seven days.
Daily updates will be sent to the state headquarters. A central review team is already present and conducting inspections. A meeting with district health officers is scheduled for tomorrow.
Some individuals were revisiting hospitals after initially being discharged, prompting health officials to instruct that all such patients be kept under 24-hour observation.
Among the tests conducted so far, 90% of the samples tested positive for cholera. In light of the situation in Jajpur and other areas, a high-level review meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary. Health officials are providing detailed reports on the diarrhea situation to the state leadership.
