Dabugaon, Oct 5 [UDN}: The idol of Lord Ganesha, worshipped by the Bighneswar Club located in front of the Sri Jagannath Temple in Dabugaon block of Nabarangpur district, was taken out for immersion in a grand procession on Friday evening.
The immersion procession began at around 5 pm, with the clay idol of Lord Ganesha, which had been worshipped since Ganesh Chaturthi, being carried through different localities of Dabugaon on a beautifully decorated tractor.
The procession witnessed enthusiastic participation from residents, with two DJ sound systems, cultural performances and traditional celebrations adding to the festive atmosphere. Members of various youth and women’s groups participated in dance performances, which became one of the major attractions of the procession.
The committee also arranged fireworks as the procession moved through different streets. Despite the large gathering of devotees and spectators, the immersion programme continued peacefully and in an orderly manner.
Lord Ganesha was taken through various localities of Dabugaon, allowing residents to have a final darshan before the idol was taken for immersion. A large crowd gathered along the procession route to witness the celebrations.
In view of the gathering and the late-night immersion programme, adequate police personnel were deployed under the direction of Dabugaon Police Station Inspector Lachhmi Paraja to maintain law and order and ensure the smooth conduct of the procession.
According to members of the organising committee, the procession was expected to continue through different localities before reaching the Angi River, where the idol would be immersed. The immersion was likely to take place late at night.
