Free Education Enrollment Launched for 21,843 Children in Government Schools

Bhubaneswar: A total of 21,843 students have been deemed eligible to receive free education at government schools. According to the Right to Education (RTE) Act 2009, Section 12(1)(g), children from economically disadvantaged groups are entitled to free education at the entry level in government schools. Applications for enrollment were made through the RTE transparent portal.

The first phase of applications was conducted from March 18 to April 20, and students applied via the portal. A total of 36,695 applications were received for 50,225 seats in government schools. The Block Education Officers verified the original documents and deemed 27,082 applications eligible. The selection process was conducted through a central lottery system under the guidance of the Director of Primary Education.

As a result, 21,843 students have been selected for enrollment. The Block Education Officers will provide the names of the selected students to the respective government schools. The enrollment process will take place from April 26 to June 10. The enrollment is entirely free of charge, and no government school is allowed to collect any fees from the parents. Any violation of this rule will lead to legal action, as stated by the Director of Primary Education.
