Malkangiri,  Emphasis will be laid on forest protection in the district, and practices like slash-and-burn (Podu) cultivation will be curbed, said newly appointed DFO Saikirana D.N.A. while addressing the media on the occasion of assuming charge.

Speaking at a press conference held at the District Forest Office premises, the new DFO stated that the department will give special importance to forest conservation. He noted that Malkangiri district is rich in natural resources and tourism spots, and appropriate steps will be taken for their protection and development.

Efforts will also be made to prevent forest fires, conduct extensive afforestation (plantation drives), and crack down on illegal timber businesses.

Present during the event were Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) Manasun Khemundu, ACF Priyanka Mahuka, Malkangiri Range Officer Ramesh Chandra Raut, along with other departmental officers and staff.

It is noteworthy that Mr. Saikirana was previously posted in Similipal, Mayurbhanj, before taking up this new assignment.
